After being recognized as a tourist destination, Kon Ka Kinh National Park, Gia Lai province will develop according to a conservation model associated with ecotourism, creating sustainable livelihoods for buffer zone communities.

Vast forest, high biodiversity

In June 2026, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee decided to recognize Kon Ka Kinh National Park as a tourist destination, opening up opportunities for ecotourism development associated with nature conservation and biodiversity.

Kon Ka Kinh National Park has an area of nearly 42,000ha, of which more than 93% is natural forest. This area possesses a rich primary forest ecosystem with many rare animal and plant species and typical landscapes of the Central Highlands.

In 2003, Kon Ka Kinh National Park was recognized as the ASEAN Heritage Park and is one of the two important core areas of the Kon Ha Nung World Biosphere Reserve.

Being recognized as a tourist destination is expected to create motivation for the unit to develop ecotourism products, natural experiences associated with forest protection and biodiversity.

Dubbed the "green lungs" of the Central Highlands and South Central Coast, Kon Ka Kinh National Park is home to many rare and precious animal and plant species.

Mr. Thai Dai Ngoc - Secretary of Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee - affirmed that Kon Ka Kinh National Park plays a particularly important role in nature conservation, biodiversity, environmental protection, water resource regulation, scientific research and ecotourism development of the province. At the same time, this is also the core area of Kon Ha Nung World Biosphere Reserve - a natural asset of strategic significance for Gia Lai, the Central Highlands region and the whole country.

In the coming time, Kon Ka Kinh National Park will develop according to a model of conservation associated with wildlife rescue, ecosystem restoration, scientific research, environmental education, ecotourism development and sustainable livelihood creation for buffer zone communities.

Releasing hundreds of wild animal individuals back to the natural forest

In parallel with the conservation task, Kon Ka Kinh National Park is implementing many rescue and restoration activities for wildlife. In 2025, the unit received, rescued and releashed 300 wild animal individuals back to their natural environment.

In addition, nearly 19,000 hectares of forest are contracted to protect 29 household groups belonging to 18 buffer zone village communities, contributing to improving the efficiency of forest management, protection and development.

Over the past time, the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms under Kon Ka Kinh National Park has coordinated with Mang Yang Regional Forest Protection Department and Ayun Commune Police to successfully re-release hundreds of endangered, precious, and rare forest animal individuals in the natural environment.

Species belonging to the group of endangered, precious, and rare animals (groups IB and IIB) are rescued, cared for and recovered before returning to their natural habitat in Sub-area 432 managed by Kon Ka Kinh National Park.

Released species include earth pythons, brocade pythons, golden mountain turtles, wild cats, peacocks, flower iguanas, pig-tailed macaques, red-faced macaques, bordered mountain turtles, iguanas...

According to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms, all of these animals were received in May 2026 through voluntary handover by people and the coordination of functional agencies in Gia Lai province.

Bringing endangered wildlife back to its natural environment not only contributes to restoring the species population in the forest ecosystem of Kon Ka Kinh National Park but also affirms the effectiveness of rescue and conservation work in the locality. This activity also continues to spread the message of protecting biodiversity, raising community awareness in ending illegal wildlife hunting, captivation and trafficking.
