Young actors and the pressure of the title “box office star”

From affirming their names with the audience, many young actors now also have to bear no small pressure of expecting film revenue through their reputation.

Efforts to assert position

The Vietnamese film market always needs new faces to breathe new life into Vietnamese cinema. Vietnamese cinema once remembered the success of “Em chua 18” in 2017, which brought in hundreds of billions of dong in revenue. The film helped Kaity Nguyen, a star at the time who was only 18 years old, suddenly become a phenomenon.

Since then, Kaity Nguyen's name has skyrocketed. She has continuously received many big projects and is also considered one of the rare young stars who owns many works with revenue of hundreds of billions of VND.

Besides Kaity Nguyen, names like Tuan Tran, Lam Thanh My, Tran Nghia... are also considered young stars who became famous thanks to roles and projects that were well received by the public.

Among them, Tuan Tran is a male star who had a fairly favorable start when he continuously appeared in projects that Tran Thanh directed and produced such as: Bo Gia, Mai, Dat Rung Phuong Nam... These films all earned over 100 billion VND, even the film "Mai" held the record for top 1 in Vietnamese box office revenue with 520 billion VND.

A child star who grew up from the movie “I see yellow flowers on the green grass” is Lam Thanh My. When she filmed this movie, she was only 10 years old. The project won the hearts of the audience because of the pure feelings of children, the beautiful scenery of Phu Yen land... The movie also helped this child star become known to the public and was considered a future talent of Vietnamese cinema.

Successful in the roles that made their names, young stars also need to make an effort to maintain their image with the public in a time when the film market is full of elimination and competition.

That is why for many years, Kaity Nguyen and some young stars have tried hard to find new roles, even not afraid to play villainous roles, contrary to their strengths, to impress the audience and prove their maturity.

It's not easy to be a "box office star"

Up to now, the title “box office star” has been used to refer to famous actors who have attracted audiences and have many films with good revenue. People often give this title to prominent names such as: Tran Thanh, Thai Hoa, Viet Huong, Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, Hoai Linh...

However, through each period, audiences always want to see something new on the big screen, so not all of the above stars can maintain their appeal to the public. Thai Hoa, Hoai Linh... also failed many times when their films had low revenue.

Nowadays, the title of “box office star” seems to be the expectation of many young stars. They also want to affirm their position and their name to the public. However, to become a “ticket selling face” is not easy. Tran Nghia and Tuan Tran have failed with their comeback projects. Among them, Tran Nghia played in “The most beautiful summer”, the film only earned about 4 billion VND in revenue, leaving the theater with a high loss rate. Tuan Tran played in “Claws” and suffered a similar fate when the film left the theater with only a few billion VND.

At that time, the audience doubted that the actor could only be popular when acting in films directed by Tran Thanh. And the fact that his films earned hundreds of billions of dong was mainly due to Tran Thanh's reputation.

Perhaps, in recent times, young stars have not been afraid to venture out and seek new roles to gain a foothold in the profession. However, retaining the audience and proving yourself to be a name that attracts viewers in theaters is not easy.

In the near future, audiences will meet Lam Thanh My again in the role of “Cam”. From an innocent girl, Lam Thanh My has transformed into a big screen villain, surprising audiences.

Lam Thanh My said that she was quite bold in changing direction in this type of role. However, the actress hopes that the audience will see her in a new image, a more mature Lam Thanh My.
