“What Comes After Love” revolves around the story of Hong (Lee Se Young) and Jungo (Sakaguchi Kentaro) - people who accidentally meet again after 5 years of separation.
The film is adapted from the novel of the same name, co-written by Gong Ji Yeong - a famous Korean novelist with the work "Maundy Thursday" (The Last Thursday) and Japanese writer Tsuji Hitonari - who co-wrote the best-selling romance novel "Calmi Cuori Appassionati" with Kaori Ekuni.
According to director Moon Hyun Sung, when he was looking for a romance novel to adapt into a TV series, he was attracted by the novel's title.
“I often ponder what happens after love. And when I'm alone, I think about how people feel when they run into their exes.
The original novel explores the kind of romance I wanted to tell, and I wanted to bring that story to the screen. However, it will be different from the original, and I hope you will look forward to it.”
According to the director, the fact that the project has the participation of actors from Japan and Korea puts a bit of pressure on him, but in a positive way, because it has been a long time since the audience has witnessed this combination.
Meanwhile, Sakaguchi Kentaro was also excited about the experience of filming in Korea. The actor said he found the Korean cityscape to be the perfect backdrop for the characters' melancholy emotions after they reunite.
“Many of the scenes shot in Korea are imbued with sadness and sorrow. The cold, bleak landscapes here perfectly complement the mood, adding to the overall atmosphere of sadness and grief.”
For male stars, "What Comes After Love" is a good story where the male and female leads are different in nationality and culture but they share the same bond of love.
Meanwhile, Lee Se Young revealed that in this film she had to use more Japanese than her co-stars. However, thanks to the help of her teacher as well as Sakaguchi Kentaro, she was very confident in her performance.
Along with that, good chemistry with the Japanese star also helped her feel less lonely while filming abroad.
“We joked a lot in the Korean and Japanese we knew. If our languages were the same, it would probably be too noisy,” the actress said.
The first episode of “What Comes After Love” will air on September 27.
