On October 22, at the campus of Yunnan University (China), the film crew of "Red Dance Shoes" - a project starring Zhou Da - caused outrage when a car from the film crew crashed into a cat car car cared for by a student in the school, causing the animal to die on the spot. The incident quickly became the focus of controversy on Chinese social networks.
According to many students, during the time the film crew was present at Dong Luc facility to film outdoor scenes, the vehicles serving the crew often went in and out of the internal area, moving at high speed, despite the school's safety regulations.
After that, a car of the group crashed into a cat named Quyt Nho (or Tieu Quat Tu) that was loved by the group of students. The post denouncing the incident spread strongly on Weibo along with a call to boycott the film crew. A student was upset and wrote: I regret not taking Quyet Nho with me when I was still near him. Those who do not respect us, nor do they respect life".
In response to the fierce wave of protests, on October 23, the film crew of "Red Shoes and Dance" officially posted a document of public apology. In the announcement, the crew confirmed that the incident occurred due to "driver's inactivity when no animals were found near the vehicle", and expressed "deep grief and regret". The film crew said that they have fired the driver involved, established a safety control mechanism, and especially established a Quyt Nho Fund to support the raising, reproduction and care of rumored animals in the campus of Yunnan University.
However, this apology cannot appease public opinion. Many students pointed out that the area where the accident occurred was Ngan Hanh Street, which was a pedestrian sidewalk where cars were not allowed to move. They believe that the film crew arbitrarily moved the blocks of rocks blocking the road for vehicles to enter, acting far beyond the "yield rate". Some opinions also accused the crew of threatening students to remove the complaint, making the online community even more upset.
Currently, the school has not given an official response, while the main actors Chau Da and Chu Chinh Dinh are still silent. The incident is sparking a wave of calls for film crews to strictly comply with safety regulations and respect the school environment.
