With seven decades of formation and development, the Vietnam National Academy of Music is not only the cradle for training many generations of leading artists of the country but also a center for research, preservation and spread of national music values.

The cradle of musical talents

Born in 1956 under the name Vietnam Music School, the Vietnam National Academy of Music is the first professional music training institution in the country. Through many stages of development, the Vietnam National Academy of Music has always accompanied the development of revolutionary music, contributing to training high-quality human resources for the country.

For 70 years, the Academy has not only performed the task of training but also assumed the role of scientific research, heritage preservation and art performance organization. These three core functions have created the unique identity of the academy, helping it become the leading music center in Vietnam and gradually affirm its position in the region.

What makes the brand of the Vietnam National Academy of Music is the quality of training. From this school, thousands of artists, lecturers, researchers and cultural managers have grown up, making important contributions to the country's music life.

To date, the Academy has trained more than 10,000 music officials for art schools, research institutes, professional art troupes and cultural agencies across the country. Not only that, the Academy also trains many students from Laos, Cambodia and many other countries, contributing to promoting cultural and educational cooperation in the region.

One of the unique features that creates the training quality of the academy is the "one teacher - one student" model for many performing arts majors. This is an individualized training method, helping learners be directly guided and maximize their artistic and performing techniques. This model requires large investment in the teaching staff but has contributed to creating many artists of international level.

In addition to Western classical music majors such as: Piano, strings, breath, vocals, conducting, composing... The Academy also maintains and develops a system of training in folk instruments, traditional music, musicology and jazz. This is a direction that both preserves national identity and absorbs the quintessence of world music.

Mentioning the Vietnam National Academy of Music, many people immediately remember the big names of Vietnamese music. Typical is People's Artist Dang Thai Son - the first Vietnamese and also the first Asian artist to win the First Prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition in 1980.

Besides famous artists, students of the Academy continuously achieve high results in domestic and international music competitions. In the period 2016-2025 alone, intermediate students of the Academy won 316 awards, while university students won 149 awards at music competitions and festivals.

Many large art programs serving political and foreign affairs events of the Party and State are assigned to the academy to stage and perform, contributing to promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends through the language of music.

Innovation for integration

In the context of strongly transforming higher education, the Vietnam National Academy of Music is also constantly innovating to meet development requirements. The school expands cooperation with many prestigious music training institutions in Italy, Russia, Japan, Korea, Hungary, Romania, Sweden, Australia... through lecturer and student exchange programs, masterclass organization, performances and scientific research.

Many young lecturers are sent to train abroad, contributing to improving the quality of staff and accessing advanced training methods in the world.

In parallel with that, the academy is one of the pioneering units of the cultural sector to deploy the E-VNAM training management system, applying digital technology in managing learners, electronic transcripts, tuition fees and operating activities.

According to the orientation to 2035, the academy aims to become a leading training, research, creative and international cooperation center in music in Southeast Asia, continuing to play a leading role in developing high-quality music human resources.
