Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong was born in 1974, the son of the late musician Huy Du and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhung - one of the pioneering female musicians of Vietnam in the field of symphonic composition.
Oriented to the path of music from a young age, he started learning piano at the age of 6. After 14 years of studying at the Gnesin Academy of Music (Russia), Nguyen Huy Phuong successively completed intermediate, university, Master of Performing Piano and Doctor of Musicology programs, all achieving excellent results.
Returning to Vietnam in 2003, he worked at the Piano Department of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, participating in teaching and training many generations of young artists.
In addition to teaching activities, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong regularly performs domestically and internationally as a soloist with a symphony orchestra, and also participates in many chamber instrumental programs.
During his work, he held many management positions at the Academy. In 2014, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Piano Department; in 2015, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor. In 2020, he held the position of Deputy Director in charge of training and from 2021 was Chairman of the Academy Council.
In 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong and 13 students organized the Harmony of Generations concert program at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. The program gathers many generations of students and alumni who have studied majors and piano ensembles directly guided by him.
