The appellate trial of the property inheritance dispute related to the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh is expected to be reopened by the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City on April 22.
According to the first-instance judgment of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court announced in January 2025, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan is identified as the legal adopted daughter of the late artist Vu Linh, belonging to the first line of inheritance and entitled to 85% of the total value of inheritance. Meanwhile, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Nhung is divided 15% of the inheritance due to her contributions to taking care of the family of the late artist Vu Linh.
After the first-instance verdict, the related parties all filed appeals with many opposing opinions. Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan proposed to amend the judgment, disagreeing with dividing 15% of the inheritance to Ms. Vo Thi Hong Nhung, and at the same time said that applying case law in the case is not appropriate. Hong Loan also reflected that her honor was affected during the trial process.
In the opposite direction, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Nhung proposed to cancel the legal documents related to Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan, including the adoption paper and birth certificate; at the same time, requesting to determine that the late NSƯT Vu Linh has no first-line heir so that Ms. Hong Nhung and Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu (younger brother of Vu Linh) can enjoy the entire inheritance.
Regarding the case, singer Hong Phuong (Hong Nhung's daughter) - one of the people with related rights and obligations - said that the family has accepted some contents from the first-instance trial, but the lawsuit is to clarify information and protect the wishes of the late artist.
According to Hong Phuong sharing with reporters: "The 15% property that the court has declared is not the property of Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan, nor is it related to Ms. Hong Loan, but this property still belongs to the total inheritance of the late NSUT Vu Linh divided according to the court's ruling.
This property includes my uncle's land plot, house at No. 5 Doan Thi Diem, Ho Chi Minh City... The family hopes that the related details will be comprehensively considered at the upcoming appellate hearing".
In addition, Hong Phuong also expressed her desire that the trial will clarify the remaining controversial issues, thereby helping the public understand the true nature of the matter. At the same time, the family expects the court to consider humane factors, especially the aspirations believed to be of the late artist during his lifetime, in order to ensure fairness and long-term stability.
According to the decision to bring the case to appellate trial, in addition to the plaintiff and defendant, the trial panel also summoned many related individuals, including Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu (alias artist Tieu Linh).
The upcoming appellate trial is considered an important legal basis to review the entire content of the appeal, and at the same time may clarify key issues in the heritage dispute of late NSƯT Vu Linh, which has attracted public attention for a long time.
