On the evening of May 17, at the City Theater, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee organized the Opening Ceremony of the National Cai Luong Actor Talent Competition 2026.
For a long time, Ho Chi Minh City has always played the role of a major center for cải lương art of the whole country. This is a gathering place for a large number of artists, composers, art units and many generations of audiences who love this type of art. Through hosting many festivals, performances and national-scale competitions, Ho Chi Minh City has affirmed its capacity and sense of responsibility in accompanying the cultural and artistic development of the whole country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that in the face of the digital technology wave, Cai Luong must be innovated to adapt and develop sustainably. The contest will promptly discover outstanding core members, creating strong motivation for Vietnamese Cai Luong stage to sublimate in the coming time.
In addition, the 2026 National Cai Luong Actor Talent Competition is of special significance as it takes place in the context of Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on developing Vietnamese culture gradually entering life. The event is not only a gathering place, discovering and honoring young stage talents but also a practical action to concretize the spirit of the Resolution.
This year's competition gathers 36 contestants with 35 talent contest excerpts from 12 public and non-public art units nationwide. After the opening ceremony on the evening of May 17, the contestants will enter the competition from May 18 to May 22 at Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theater (No. 136 Tran Hung Dao Street, Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
