The freight train crash into a bus at a railway intersection in Thailand on May 16 killed 8 people and injured 32 others.
Mr. Urumporn Koondejsumrit, head of Makkasan police station, said evidence shows that the train driver was negligent, leading to death. Authorities also plan to prosecute the bus driver, but this person is still undergoing medical treatment, so he cannot be questioned and has not been officially prosecuted.
Investigators are considering the possibility of adding more allegations related to the incident.
According to information from functional agencies, the cargo train crashed into a bus stopping on the tracks due to a red light. The collision caused a fire that engulfed the bus and dragged many other vehicles along the tracks.
After the accident, the scene was cleared and railway traffic was restored. Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport of Thailand, said that functional agencies will strengthen safety and surveillance measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
Many people said they have long been worried about the risk of accidents in this intersection area because vehicles often pass through even though there is a stop signal.
