After a series of legal disputes between MBC (the old producer) and current production companies, the historical drama "Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born" has officially premiered to the audience.
Despite being one of the most anticipated works in October, with 8.8% of the votes according to Soompi, the film starring Kim Tae Ri only recorded an average rating of 4.8%, according to Nielsen Korea.
Daum commented that the film has fast-paced developments, realistically recreating the story of the main character Yoon Jeong Nyeon (Kim Tae Ri) - a person with a natural singing voice - but lives an ordinary life selling fish in her hometown of Mokpo.
After a fateful meeting with Moon Ok Kyung (Jung Eun Chae), known as the "crown prince" of the theater, Jeong Nyeon's life changed. With Ok Kyung's support, she was determined to pursue her dream and enter the Maeran theater troupe, despite her mother's objections.
According to the media, after the movie "Devil" (2023), Kim Tae Ri once again transformed on screen. Her efforts in practicing her voice for 3 years as well as her singing, dancing, and speaking dialect skills were recognized in this project.
On screen, Kim Tae Ri showed off her clear, emotional voice, like a real theater artist. Along with that, the scenes of the character going to the sea to catch clams or cutting fish to sell at the market were also praised for being natural and realistic.
Besides Kim Tae Ri, the film's plus point comes from the acting of the talented female cast including: Jung Eun Chae, Kim Yoon Hye, Ra Mi Ran... Each person takes on an important role, helping to increase the audience's attention to the work.
However, the reason why "Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born" could not explode when it first aired was because the genre of the film was somewhat picky about viewers. However, the producer's efforts to promote traditional Korean arts through the work were a scoring factor.
Meanwhile, airing at the same time as Kim Tae Ri's drama is Park Shin Hye's "The Judge from Hell." The drama is entering its second half with its highest viewership rating since its premiere - reaching 13.6%.
In the latest development, Han Da On (Kim Jae Young) learned that Kang Bit Na (Park Shin Hye) was behind the murder cases after watching the video of the female judge "acting on behalf of heaven". However, the fact that he did not expose her but instead hinted that he wanted to kill the murderer and go to hell together made Bit Na heartbroken.
This is also a valuable scene in the episode, showing that Bit Na has gradually been transformed. She is no longer a cold, emotionless devil, but has gradually changed her emotions, thoughts, and even developed feelings for Da On.
Park Shin Hye's performance in the work is considered lively and fresh. Not only convincing the audience in the cold, sinister scenes, the actress also impresses with deep, psychological scenes.
