"Getting Rich With Ghosts" Gets Attention Because of Hoai Linh and Le Giang
In "Getting Rich with Ghosts", besides the father-son love between Mr. Dao (Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh) and Lanh (Tuan Tran), the mother-daughter love between Na (Diep Bao Ngoc) and her long-missing daughter, there is also the gentle old love between Mrs. Sau (Le Giang) for Mr. Dao.
In old age, both just want someone to be by their side to share joys, sorrows and pressures of life.
Mrs. Sau became Mr. Dao and Lanh's neighbor after moving to this poor neighborhood three years ago. Feeling sorry for his wife who died early and his father who was a single father, Mrs. Sau often took care of and helped Mr. Dao with housework. Over time, she developed feelings for him without realizing it.
Through previously revealed images, Mrs. Sau takes care of Lanh like a real mother. When she sees him being surrounded by gangsters, she does not hesitate to rush out and scream to stop him. Every now and then, she buys fish and stews chicken for Lanh. But when he mentions his love affair with Mr. Dao, Mrs. Sau is shy and does not dare to admit it.
The image of Mrs. Sau and Mr. Dao sitting and wrapping cakes makes many people think of their own family with grandparents and parents who have loved each other for decades, doing the smallest things together around the house.
Le Giang shared: “The role of Mrs. Sau by Le Giang does not appear much. But this is a role that Le Giang really likes because she gets to work with Mr. Linh, Tuan Tran, and Diep Bao Ngoc. People who are very close to Le Giang. Mrs. Sau secretly loves Mr. Dao and takes care of both Mr. Dao and Lanh like family members. Being together in times of need is a joy of old age.”
It can be seen that the role of Mrs. Sau is Le Giang's strong point. It was not difficult for her to get into the role in this film. Previously, Le Giang also had a similar role in "Bo Gia" or the kind neighbor in "Gap Lai Chi Bau".
The juggling act between Le Giang and Hoai Linh is also considered a bright spot in a script with many flaws.
In it, a typical scene of Lanh playing cockfighting, if he wins, he takes the money, if he loses, he runs away. The strange thing is that all the cockfighting arenas have gangsters protecting them, but Lanh still escaped easily.
Many minor characters and plot twists appear but are not specifically resolved. The plot twists are quite predictable or just to surprise without any clear logic.
The film has a style similar to horror-comedy from Thailand. The first half of the film focuses on comedy and there will be a twist to change to an emotional direction that has not created surprise for the audience.
Getting rich with ghosts wins thanks to many factors
"Getting Rich With Ghosts" earned 26 billion VND after less than 3 days of showing. This is the most popular movie in Vietnamese theaters during the September 2nd holiday.
On September 1st alone, the film earned more than 7.4 billion VND (up to now), double the revenue of Quyen Linh's film "Hai Muoi".
The reason "Get Rich With Ghosts" attracts audiences is because the film's color is suitable for audiences going to theaters during the holidays - needing lots of laughter and family affection.
Moreover, at this time, "Getting Rich with Ghosts" does not have many strong competitors except for Quyen Linh's Hai Muoi. Meanwhile, Viet Huong's "Ma da" has cooled down.
