On April 14, 2025, Member of the Politburo and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Decision No. 759/QD -TTg approving the Scheme on arrangement and reorganization of administrative units at all levels, accordingly, merging 2 provinces of Quang Binh - Quang Tri into a new province called Quang Tri Province.
The administrative - political center is located in Dong Hoi city today.
Before merging in Quang Tri province, Quang Binh - Quang Tri had a historical length attached to a certain cultural similarity.
According to the document of the National Archives Center I, in 1831 - 1832, in order to unify administrative units throughout the country, King Minh Menh made a vast reform of nationwide.
The document recorded, King Minh Menh said: "The country set up the towns to be a vase, put officials to rule, which is a big policy of the court.
King Minh Menh has eliminated the "cities" and "towns" units, divided the whole country into 31 provinces. After redistributing the province, to facilitate the management, King Minh Menh for combining 2 or 3 provinces to make a "particle" and set the officials to keep.
Accordingly, Quang Binh and Quang Tri province merged into a nut called Binh Tri.
During the anti -French resistance war, Binh Tri and Thua Thien areas became the "Binh Tri Thien" battlefield famous for his strong will to fight. Experiencing fierce sweeps, the guerrilla war of Binh Tri Thien is still stable and indomitable.
From 1953 to 1954, the base area of Quang Tri, Thua Thien and Quang Binh was connected, creating a continuous position to Savanakheth and Saravan (Laos), the resistance direction was consolidated, and the capacity to organize the command was strongly developed.
The land of "Binh Tri Thien" with the name "Binh Tri Thien smoke" famous in the history of resistance wars.
In particular, typically in the anti -American anti -American resistance battlefield, Binh Tri Thien is considered a "hot spot", the most fierce battlefield, but the fighting spirit of the army and people of Binh Tri Thien is always indomitable and loyal.
In the research project "Uncle Ho with Binh Tri Thien" (2 volumes) by the Party Historical Research Committee and Binh Tri Thien Cultural and Information Company published in 1977 and 1978, clearly stating the resounding feats of the "Binh Tri Thien" militia in the history of defending the nation.
As a famous place in the spirit of combat, in 1975, after peaceful peace, 3 provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien merged into Binh Tri Thien province. At this time, Binh Tri Thien was officially the name of a province.
In 1989, before the requirements of the socio-economic development situation, Binh Tri Thien province split into three provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue.
In the near future, Quang Binh - Quang Tri merged into Quang Tri province, while Hue is one of 6 cities directly under the Central Government.
