Everyone was amazed, it was true that a violin made of porcelain could still be played and played very well.
The sparkling white porcelain violin with gold plating in the hands of famous artist Xuan Huy attracted the attention of many people. The violin was completed with the final details on November 4, 2024 to be donated to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center on November 5, 2024.
The work consists of two parts, the base and the main body. The main body is a complete violin, the size of a 4/4 violin, which can be disassembled. Notably, this violin is one of the five rare porcelain violins in the world that can be performed on a professional stage.
The porcelain violin is covered with white enamel, adding other materials such as wood, titanium and steel. The entire board, ribs and small details on the neck are plated with 9999 gold. Every detail in the violin is complete, standard for a wooden violin. The entire manufacturing process is meticulously and delicately done by hand by artist Xuan Huy.
There are a few artisans in the world who make porcelain violins, but only for "decoration", and artist Xuan Huy's porcelain violin is, so far, the only one that can be played.
Not only famous for his artistic talent, at the age of 13, artist Xuan Huy was ranked in the top 16 "musical prodigies" in the world, held in Venhepsky (Poland). Xuan Huy is the only Vietnamese artist to play in Princess Diana's Symphony Orchestra for 8 years.
But Xuan Huy has another natural talent, which is making violins. This has surprised the violin making world not only in the country but also in the world.
During more than 10 years of persistently pursuing his passion, artist and violinist Nguyen Xuan Huy has crafted five porcelain instruments, one of which was presented to former Emperor Akihito at the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan relations in Tokyo in 2019. The fifth instrument was presented by the artist to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center. The remaining instruments are owned by collectors.
Mr. Hoang Viet Trung said that the porcelain instrument donated by artist Xuan Huy is on display at Kien Trung Palace, which has a space for displaying porcelain from the Khai Dinh period.
