Source of controversy
In the videos, Pham Khanh Hung gave many humorous comments about the performance of his colleagues. Notably, when talking about Trinh Thang Binh, he joked: "Now Binh has returned to being Vietnamese, no longer Korean", referring to the male singer's pronunciation. With Mew Amazing's performance, Pham Khanh Hung commented that this musician is deliberately repeating the image of BB Tran in the first season of the program.
These comments quickly caused controversy. Many viewers believe that Pham Khanh Hung's comment was sarcastic, focusing on the shortcomings of colleagues instead of professional evaluation. Some opinions also said that the male singer disrespected the performer, especially when the comments were broadcast on social media platforms, where there are many viewers.
Before the strong reaction from public opinion, Pham Khanh Hung removed all the reaction videos. After that, he posted an apology post on his personal page, admitting that his words may have hurt colleagues and fans.
Why did the audience react?
The point that makes many viewers react is not in Pham Khanh Hung's reaction video, but in the way he gives comments. Instead of analyzing singing technique, how to handle arrangements or stage staging, some sentences focus on the artist's shortcomings.
For example, the joke about Trinh Thang Binh is considered by many to be referring to the pronunciation error of a colleague. With Mew Amazing, the assessment that the male musician "imitates BB Tran" is also considered emotional when not giving a specific analysis.
Audiences often accept video reactions from professionals if they are suggestive. However, when the commenter is an artist operating in the same environment, the words are easily understood as criticizing or belittling colleagues.
In particular, Pham Khanh Hung once participated in the first season of "Anh Trai Vuot Ngan Chong Gai", so many people expect him to sympathize with the pressure of artists on stage.
Some of Pham Khanh Hung's statements were assessed as creating laughter with the flaws of others. Therefore, although it may not be malicious, the way it is expressed still makes viewers feel "unlucky".
After removing the video, Pham Khanh Hung posted an apology and admitted that his statement hurt others. However, some opinions said that the apology was still general, not directly mentioning Trinh Thang Binh and Mew Amazing.
Therefore, instead of closing the controversy, the apology continues to create two streams of views: one side believes that the male singer has admitted his mistake; the other side believes that he has not really faced specific controversial statements.
Pham Khanh Hung was born in 1982, was once one of the prominent faces of V-pop in the early 2000s with songs such as "Why so", "Where did you leave", "Counting", "Honestly apologize to you"... After the financial upheaval in 2008, he immigrated to the US and returned to Vietnam to pursue artistic activities at the end of 2022. In 2024, Pham Khanh Hung participated in the first season of "Older Brothers Overcoming Thousands of Hardships".
