She has participated in a series of classic works such as: Hanoi Baby, First Love, Last Night of the Year... and contributed to the success of many famous TV series such as: Those Who Live Alongside Me, Master Tran Thu Do, Living with Mother-in-law...
In a conversation with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the artist emotionally shared:
I am an artist who has been in film for more than 50 years. The first film I participated in 51 years ago - the film "Hanoi Baby" is not only a big mark in my career, but also a mark of Vietnamese cinema. Then there is the film First Love - a work released in 1977.
Until today, when the country is truly peaceful, we still cannot forget the past. To have the film industry develop as it is now so that young people can freely create, it is thanks to the blood and bones and contributions of many previous generations. Therefore, today's young generation does not have the right to forget history".
The most memorable memory in Lan Huong's career was her role in "Hanoi Baby". At that time, she was only 10 years old. Director Hai Ninh spent many months traveling to all kinds of children's clubs and schools to recruit actors. Lan Huong's clear, round, intelligent and emotional eyes immediately made him choose her for the role. However, her mother objected because she was worried about her daughter's health. It was not until Dr. Tran Duy Hung - then Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee - personally wrote a handwritten letter to her family that she was allowed to participate in the film.
After her first role, Lan Huong identified art as the only way. Despite being opposed by her mother, Lan Huong is determined to pursue. In 1977, at the age of 15, Lan Huong passed the acting course of the Youth Theater, in the same generation as artists who later became big names such as: Chi Trung, Le Khanh, Minh Hang, Anh Tu... Since then, she has been Persistently attached to both theater and cinema and has especially left a strong impression in nearly 20 years of working in the field of physical drama.
Even after retiring, People's Artist Lan Huong continued to contribute to art when teaching directing, organizing events and festivals at Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema from 2012 to 2022. Currently, she stopped teaching and only participated in writing scripts.
Looking back on her journey of more than half a century, the female artist believes that the current young generation is very lucky to live in a peaceful time, have many creative conditions and access the quintessence of world cinema. But the important thing is to know how to harmonize and maintain their own identity, while contributing to bringing Vietnamese cinema to international standards.
She hopes that the younger generation will continue that spirit, create better works, be more humane, and have a better image.
I also feel that the country is currently developing strongly. In that context, Vietnamese cinema has more opportunities to rise up, to integrate with the world, both affirming national identity and contributing a common voice on the international cinema map - the artist shared.
According to People's Artist Lan Huong, what creates lasting vitality for Vietnamese Revolutionary cinema is patriotism: "Love for the Fatherland, love for the Fatherland - that is a sustainable source flowing through many generations of Vietnamese people. From generation to generation, patriotism has never faded. That love for the Fatherland is not just a simple feeling, but a attachment to the land that has been soaked in sweat and blood and bones of many generations. That love has fostered the strength to protect and preserve the river, so that the country can survive and develop to this day".
During the days when the whole country is looking forward to celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, People's Artist Lan Huong is honored to be one of the artists participating in the A80 parade and parade. She shared that, coming from a family with many soldiers, every time she steps in the parade, she deeply feels her pride, emotion and gratitude for the generations of her father who have fallen in exchange for today's peace.
When I participated in A80, I felt small compared to the great sacrifice of my father. If there is fatigue and pain in the legs while exercising, it is not worth it" - the female artist expressed.
