Based on the famous webtoon (online comic), My Daughter is a Zombie tells the story of Jung Hwan (Jo Jung Suk) - a devoted father who begins a secret training course to protect his daughter - Soo Ah (Choi Yu Ri) - who is currently the last survivor on Earth.
The film was released on July 30 and officially surpassed 2 million tickets on August 4. As of the morning of August 5, the film had sold 2,056,047 tickets, earning more than 19.1 billion won (360.7 billion VND), according to the Korea Film Council.
With this achievement, tou bas favorite Zombie became the fastest film to achieve this achievement of the year. The film was a hit on its opening day, setting a record for the highest opening Korean box office revenue in 2025 and the highest opening Korean comedy of all time.
Korean media commented that the audience's acceptance of "My father's favorite Zombie" is not only seen through the number of tickets sold and pre-booked tickets but also through many platforms, in which the CGV Golden Egg index (measuring the level of audience satisfaction) is recording a high level - 92/100%, showing the positive response of the majority of viewers.
Another advantage of the work is that Korea is about to have a long holiday, the film is labeled T13 (for audiences aged 13 and over), so it can reach many audiences, promoting revenue success.
Previously, according to data from CGV (Korea), the film booking rate reached 33% for people aged 40.23 and 22, respectively, for people aged 20 and 22, showing that the work attracts many different age groups.
Korea Times even expected My fathers favorite Zombie to be the next Korean drama to reach the 10 million ticket mark after Seoul Spring (December 12: The Day) - a drama that attracted 13 million views at the Korean box office in 2023.
Accordingly, 10 million tickets is considered a success at the box office in this country. This milestone was first achieved in 2003 by the movie Silmido. Since then, 33 films have surpassed the number at the domestic box office, and 24 of them are Korean works.
However, after the COVID-19 pandemic, box office revenue has decreased significantly. Although the market has shown some signs of recovery, the gloomy box office revenue situation continues, with only 2 films per year reaching the 10 million ticket mark from 2022 to 2024.
However, with the appeal of the story, meaningful messages about family love, and good acting of the cast, especially the male lead Jo Jung Suk - who is considered the "soul" of the work, "Dat's hot girl" promises to soon achieve new records, approaching the 10 million ticket mark.
