Tai" is a film project marking a new step for singer My Tam when continuing to participate as a producer, and also Mai Tai Phen's debut film as a director.
The film revolves around the character Tai (Mai Tai Phen), a gangster who used to be in prison. After being released from prison, he tries to rebuild his life with manual labor in the hope of overcoming a past of many mistakes. However, Tai's journey to repentance is not easy when family troubles continuously drag him back into the vortex of the past.
The root cause of many upheavals comes from his mother - Aunt Phuc (Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy), a gambling addict who continuously incurs large debts. Family pressure makes Tai face a difficult choice between continuing to live honestly or returning to the old path to solve everything. The story therefore opens up many dramatic situations, including chases between the waterway police and the gang led by Mrs. Kim (Hong Anh).
Although it is his debut film, the fact that Mai Tai Phen takes on many roles from screenwriter, director to main actor shows the serious investment in the project. The pace of the film is kept at a stable level, the main character is built with many layers of psychology, depicting the image of a gangster man struggling to find a way to reform.
However, My Tam's relatively little appearance in the film also made some viewers feel regretful when they expected to see more of the female singer's role on screen after many years of absence.
