Still Shining" tells the story of Yeon Tae Seo (Jinyoung) and Mo Eun Ah (Kim Min Ju) - two people who loved each other from childhood but broke up.
10 years later, they reunite and face each other with pain, maturity and new challenges as they gradually become a source of light guiding each other in life.
The movie "Light of Ours" is 10 episodes long. The movie opened with a viewership rating of 2.1% and ended at 0.8%, according to Nielsen Korea. This number also marks the lowest rating in the history of Friday night TV dramas on JTBC.
In fact, initially, the youth work of director Kim Yoon Jin - who was successful with the movie "Our Dear Summer" - received much expectation, thanks to the setting, film color, and young, beautiful cast.
In the first 2 episodes, the film reflects the poetic story of high school of Tae Seo and Eun Ah. At that time, the main couple appearing together was not only light but also a catalyst to help each other overcome difficulties.
But then, the movie "Light of Us" falls into a vicious cycle, from meeting again, reuniting and then misunderstanding, breaking up. The majority believe that they have not had time to be happy with Tae Seo and Eun Ah meeting again after a decade - then deciding to "love again from the beginning" and already feel tired again, when they continuously face different conflicts.
The fact that the film ends with the breakup scene of the main couple - when Eun Ah goes to the US, and Tae Seo stays to start working as a train driver - makes many viewers disappointed.
Because Tae Seo opened his heart, saying he would wait and be ready to be there if one day Eun Ah needed a future with him by her side. However, the fact that both can still live well, find their own bright light makes viewers realize: from the beginning, this love affair seemed to be predetermined not to have a complete ending.
Besides the ending, before that, "Light of Us" also caused controversy when there was a scene of Tae Seo and Sung Chan (Shin Jae Ha) driving after drinking alcohol.
Although the production team later apologized and said they would prevent similar problems from happening in the future, a part of the audience sent complaints to the Korea Communication Standards Commission requesting to handle the violations.
