Amidst the fierce competition of the Tet movie season, "Tieu Nhan" (full name: Tieu Nhan: Phong Khoi Dai Mac) became a notable phenomenon with an impressive comeback. As of the beginning of March, the film reached more than 1.1 billion yuan, rising to the leading box office group and receiving positive scores on review platforms.
The work directed by Yuen Woo-ping gathers many generations of action stars, from Jet Li, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Wu Jing, Nicholas Tse to Zhang Jin. This combination helps the film to be considered to be imbued with the traditional martial arts spirit.
According to a survey by Chinese media, among the actors, Luong Gia Huy is highly appreciated by many audiences for his acting, even higher than Ngo Kinh or other actors. He plays Lao Mac - a father who wholeheartedly cares for his daughter. The character does not have too much screen time but leaves a strong aftertaste. Luong Gia Huy's eyes, expressions and restraint in emotional scenes are considered "valuable", especially in the scene where the character sacrifices for his daughter. Deep acting helps the role avoid falling into tragedy, instead it is a genuine feeling of pity.
Standing behind Luong Gia Huy is Ly Lien Kiet. In his 60s, he still plays villains with many action scenes. Performing most of the martial arts scenes himself, not using stunt doubles, makes the audience admire him. Ly Lien Kiet's appearance is symbolic, contributing to increasing the appeal of the film.
Ta Dinh Phong also surprised with a villain with a complex inner world. Besides the strong fights, his character also has a conflicting relationship with the main line, creating an emotional climax.
Wu Jing - a familiar face of action movies - is ranked next. The sword and horse character he portrays has a wandering, liberal style. The scenes using weapons and close combat are considered pleasing to the eye, clearly showing the martial arts strength of the male actor.
Although Zhang Yi does not appear much, he still leaves an impression with the role of a strategy-minded powerful god. With just a few lines and glances, he creates the aura of a calculating character.
In the youth line, Tran Le Quan and Tu Sa scored points thanks to their suitable appearance and efforts in action scenes. However, compared to the predecessors, their acting still has a certain gap.
The fact that "Tiêu nhân" is accelerating revenue shows that the appeal of traditional martial arts films still has a place. However, with a production budget estimated at about 700 million yuan, the film needs to reach a higher milestone to truly generate profits.
However, the comeback of the work has partly regained the audience's trust in historical action films. Many opinions expressed their desire for the crew to continue developing the next part if financial conditions permit.
