According to statistics, "Heo Nam Mong" is currently the most outstanding film of the April 30th holiday season this year (only "Phi Phong: Devil of the Sacred Forest" was released 1 week before the holiday films) earning more than 70.8 billion VND.
Behind are "Hero" reaching about 26.27 billion VND and "Blood Moon Party 8" with 24.33 billion VND. Meanwhile, "Condor Boss" only collected more than 8.57 billion VND, showing a significant difference between projects.
In the daily revenue table, the movie "Heo Nam Mong" with 3.59 billion VND and "Anh Hung" reached about 1.69 billion VND. The next positions belong to "Dai tiec trang mau 8" (978 million VND) and "Trum so" (931 million VND).
Although the diverse number of films helps the theatrical film market become more vibrant, this is what causes revenue to be divided. No works create outstanding attraction to attract audiences to theaters on a large scale like in previous years. Even the total daily revenue of the 4 films is also at a moderate level, not too high compared to films screened on major holidays.
In fact, the April 30th film season in 2024 and 2025 witnessed strong growth. Many works such as "Lat Mat 8" or "Detective Kien" recorded daily revenue of more than 20 billion VND, even reaching 30 billion VND - a figure that current films have not yet reached.
There are many reasons why the box office is stagnant this year. First of all, too many Vietnamese films are released in theaters at the same time, leading to direct competition and dispersal of audiences. Besides, the long holiday also gives people more entertainment options such as traveling, returning to their hometowns or participating in outdoor activities, instead of focusing on cinemas.
The content factor also plays an important role. Although this year's films are considered to have relatively uniform quality, there is still a lack of a truly breakthrough work in terms of script or media effects to create a box office "fever" like "Lat Mat 8" or "Detective Kien" once did.
Currently, after nearly 10 days of screening, 4 films for the April 30th holiday this year, namely "Heo Nam Mong", "Anh Hung", "Dai tiec trang mau 8" and "Trum so", still have no projects reaching the 100 billion VND mark. Among them, 3/4 of the films have not yet exceeded the 50 billion VND mark. This shows that the ticket sales capacity of Vietnamese films for the April 30th holiday this year is still quite weak, not too outstanding.
In the context of an increasingly competitive market, a film's breakthrough not only depends on quality but also needs a reasonable distribution strategy. Spreading screening slots and choosing a release date is becoming an important problem for producers.
