On May 1st, the People's Committee of Cua Tung commune, Quang Tri province, said that functional forces and people promptly rescued 4 tourists swept away by sea waves.
According to initial information, at about 11 am on the same day, at Cua Tung beach, a group of tourists from Hanoi city were swimming near the shore when they were suddenly swept away by a whirlwind about 30-40m away.
Discovering the incident, the Management Board of Cua Tung beach coordinated with people to quickly organize rescue, bringing swimming equipment to approach the victims.
After about 40 minutes of struggling with big waves and strong whirlpools, rescue forces brought all 4 people ashore safely. Among them were 3 men and 1 child.
When brought ashore, some victims showing signs of exhaustion were given timely first aid, respiratory support and gradually recovered.
Mr. Hoang Van Duc - member of the Cua Tung Beach Management Board, Cua Tung Commune General Service Center said that the rescue process encountered many difficulties due to large waves and strong whirlpools continuously sweeping people away from the shore, rescue forces had to struggle for a long time to reach the victims.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung - Vice Chairman of Cua Tung Commune People's Committee said that the locality will promptly commend the courageous spirit of the individuals participating in the rescue; and at the same time recommend that people and tourists comply with safety regulations when swimming in the sea, especially in conditions of large waves and complex currents.
