4 years after the success of "The Youngest Tycoon", Song Joong Ki continues to choose the romantic film genre with the new project "Love Cloud" (tentatively translated: Love Cloud) of KBS station.
Expected to air in 2027, the work tells the story of Kang Woo Joo (Song Joong Ki) - an air traffic controller who can feel the emotions of his ex-lover through the weather, and Ahn Ha Ni (Park Ji Hyun) - a female pilot carrying a curse that causes her emotions to affect the weather.
This is the second consecutive time Song Joong Ki has chosen a romantic film after "My Youth". Therefore, the fact that the actor can create a new turning point after a series of projects that have not achieved the expected effect has received attention.
In fact, after "The Youngest Tycoon" - a film that achieved the highest viewership rating of 26.9% (according to Nielsen Korea), Song Joong Ki continuously tried his hand at both cinema and television with "The Dead End", "My Name is Loh Kiwan", "Bogotá: The City of Wanderers" and most recently "My Youth". However, these works have not created a spread commensurate with the actor's name.
In particular, "My Youth" opened with a rating of 2.9% and then gradually decreased to 1.5%, making Song Joong Ki's television comeback disappointing. Not only under pressure from his own achievements, the male actor also entered a time when KBS's weekend dramas faced many rating difficulties.
Recently, Nam Goong Min's "After Marriage" only fluctuated around 4-6%, while before that Lee Young Ae's "Eun Soo's Lucky Day" reached about 3% and Ma Dong Seok's "Twelve Zodiac Animals" closed with a rating of about 2%.
This shows that the appeal of the cast of famous actors is no longer a guarantee of success in the context that audiences are increasingly shifting to OTT (online) platforms.
However, "Love Cloud" is still expected to open a new chapter for Song Joong Ki. With a love story mixed with fantasy elements and a reunion with Park Ji Hyun after "The Youngest Tycoon", the film is considered an opportunity for the male actor to affirm his appeal after a period of many projects not meeting expectations, and also a test for the romantic film genre on KBS.
