On the morning of July 10, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Minh Lam - Vice Chairman of Hoai Nhon Bac Ward People's Committee (Gia Lai) - said that the fishing boat fire at Tam Quan Fishing Port on the evening of July 9 burned down 6 fishing boats of fishermen, and 2 other boats were partially burned.
According to initial information, the fire occurred at about 7:10 pm on July 9 at Tam Quan storm shelter anchorage (Hoai Nhon Bac ward).

Immediately after the fire occurred, staff of Tam Quan Fishing Port Management Board, functional forces, ship owners and people urgently participated in firefighting. The fire was controlled at about 8:20 pm and completely extinguished at 10:40 pm.
8 fishing boats caught fire belong to fishermen in Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon Dong and Hoai Nhon Bac wards, all with a length of over 15m. Among these, 1 boat has registered for dismantling.

According to Mr. Tran Minh Lam, this is a fire that caused great damage to fishermen. 6 boats were completely burned in terms of fishing gear, oil reserves on the boat, and many supplies and equipment serving the sea trip.
The locality is establishing a working group to visit, encourage and provide initial support to families with damaged ships. After reviewing, we will propose to the Provincial People's Committee to have appropriate support policies for fishermen whose ships were burned," Mr. Lam informed.

According to Mr. Lam, among the 8 boats that caught fire, 2 boats were taking supplies (receiving fuel, ice, food and necessities) to prepare to go to sea, but before they could finish, they encountered an accident and lost their boat.
Currently, the cause of the fire and the value of damage are being further verified and clarified by functional agencies.
