Vietnam awards Commemorative Medal to a Swedish film director on April 30, 1975

Swedish director Bo Öhlen received a Commemorative Medal from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for promoting Vietnam through the documentary "Vietnam's Victory".

On September 10 in Stockholm, Sweden (local time), famous film director Bo Öhlen was awarded the Medal for Cultural, Sports and Tourism Career under Decision No. 2483/QD-BVHTTDL dated July 17, 2025 of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam.

This is a worthy recognition of his outstanding contributions to fostering the friendship between Sweden and Vietnam.

The award ceremony took place at the Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden with the participation of Ambassador Tran Van Tuan, Ms. Maria Meschke - wife of director Ö Bohlen, representative of the Vietnam Association in Sweden, the Vietnam Association of Stockholm...

The documentary "Victory Vietnam" (Victory Vietnam) he directed recorded unprecedented emotional images: thousands of Swedish people taking to the streets on April 30, 1975, expressing deep solidarity with the Vietnamese people at the end of the war.

The film was first released to the audience after 50 years since the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

According to the Embassy of Sweden in Vietnam, the film "Vietnam's Victory" is not only a valuable historical document, but also a cinematic bridge connecting the two peoples, a symbol of peace, friendship and sustainable companionship between Vietnam and Sweden.

The Embassy of Sweden presented this documentary to Vietnam on April 25, 2025, ahead of the grand ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

Bo Öhlen, 77, graduated with a Master of Arts degree from Umeå University, Sweden.

He used to work as a teacher but soon realized that he was not suitable for this job.

At the age of 23, he started working atveriges Television, a position he has held for more than 50 years.

He currently runs a company specializing in producing short films aimed at society, focusing on people with disabilities.

Bo Öhlen has participated in a Swedish Vietnam support organization called United FNL Groups (De förenade FNL - groupna), established in 1967, He came to Vietnam in 1979 during a business trip, visiting Lang Son and Hanoi.
