The Archaeological Site of Đồng Đậu, Yên Lạc Commune (Yên Lạc), has an area of over 8.5 hectares discovered in February 1962. Since then, the site has been studied and excavated 7 times by central and local agencies with a total area of over 800 m2.
The excavation process has yielded a diverse range of artifacts in terms of material, quantity, and design, with various forms, tools, household items, jewelry, animal bones, human remains, etc., reflecting the long-term settlement of ancient Vietnamese people here for nearly 2 millennia.
Notably, Đồng Đậu is an archaeological site with a long and rare cultural development, spanning from the Phùng Nguyên culture to the Đồng Đậu culture, Gò Mun culture, and Đông Sơn culture. This is also considered a historical record of the existence and rise of the ancient Vietnamese people at the beginning of the nation-building process.
The Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee submitted a report on the excavation of the Đồng Đậu archaeological site. The Provincial Party Committee agreed with the plan and stated that this is a historical project, the cradle of the rice civilization, and a condition for the province to develop tourism to learn about history and roots.
Therefore, Vĩnh Phúc Province should pay attention to investment, have a plan for land clearance, a plan for conservation and restoration worthy of the national special relic site; research and expand the excavation area to have a comprehensive view; hire expert archaeologists to restore and recreate the lives of ancient Vietnamese people…
Emphasizing the importance and historical value of the Đồng Đậu archaeological site, the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee stated that the 8th excavation of the Đồng Đậu archaeological site aims to contribute to supplementing additional materials and artifacts to provide a basis for conservation, development, and promotion of the relic's value for research, tourism, and awakening of historical and cultural values, serving development.
The Provincial Party Committee agreed on the excavation plan, assigned the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee to direct relevant agencies to coordinate with central ministries and departments to specify the plan through a project to implement, focusing on long-term vision, upgrading the relic; developing a plan for land clearance and relic management.
