Traveloka's search data last summer showed a change in the way tourists plan for cultural discovery trips in Vietnam. Tourists are not only looking for heritage destinations, but also interested in ways to experience destinations, through guided tours, cultural performances, local landscapes and historical sites.
During this period, the search volume for accommodation facilities in Ninh Binh increased more than double compared to the same period last year. The search volume in Hoi An increased by more than 60%, while Hue recorded an increase of more than 45%.
A similar trend also appears in searches for activities and experiences. The level of interest in experiences associated with local history, culture and heritage is increasing, showing that tourists are building a journey not only around accommodation, but also towards deeper experiences at the destination.
Ho Chi Minh City also recorded positive growth in the number of accommodation searches in the same period. Meanwhile, Hanoi shows a different trend. The interest of tourists is more clearly shown in activities that can be experienced in the city instead of just looking for accommodation. The number of searches for half-day and full-day city tours has more than tripled compared to the same period last year, showing an increasing demand for guided tours to learn more deeply about the history and culture of the Capital.
“Vietnamese heritage is not simply about what tourists want to admire with their own eyes. More and more people are looking for ways to spend time exploring deeper lands, stories and traditional values that create the uniqueness of each destination. Traveloka's role is to help these journeys become easier to explore and plan, while supporting destinations and local travel partners to bring their stories to more tourists.” - Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Thy - Country Director of Traveloka shared.
Cultural tourism also plays an important role globally. According to estimates by Markets Report World, this type accounts for about 40% of tourism activities worldwide. For Vietnam, the opportunity lies not only in attracting tourists to famous landmarks, but also in the ability to build in-depth experiences, helping tourists better understand the unique identity of each destination.
When developed appropriately, these experiences not only give tourists reasons to stay longer, explore deeper and spend locally, but also expand opportunities for tourism businesses, tour guides, performers, artisans and local communities to participate and benefit.
