Entering the peak summer tourism season along with the long holidays of students, the way Vietnamese people plan for holidays is changing a lot. Data from Traveloka shows that domestic tourism demand continues to increase sharply, with domestic accommodation search volume in the period April - May 2026 increasing by 46% compared to the period January - February 2026, reflecting the strong return of domestic tourism.
Behind this growth is the increasingly clear trend of short trips, easy planning and optimal rest time. Instead of prioritizing long or complex journeys, tourists are switching to trips of 2-4 days, taking advantage of long weekends, summer vacations or short breaks to regenerate energy.
The trend of short-day tourism (micro-holiday), on-site tourism (staycation) and near trips is also becoming increasingly popular, as convenience becomes an equally important factor in the attractiveness of the destination. More and more tourists are choosing routes only one to three hours away from their homes, such as from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau, Phan Thiet - Mui Ne, from Hanoi to Ha Long, Ninh Binh, or from Da Nang to Hoi An and Hue.
According to Traveloka, Da Nang continues to stand out as it is both one of the most searched destinations and owns a diverse tourism ecosystem from sea resorts, festivals to entertainment. Searches for accommodation in areas such as Ngu Hanh Son, Hoi An and Son Tra all recorded growth of over 45%.
Meanwhile, Ha Long recorded a breakthrough growth with accommodation search volume increasing nearly 3 times, showing an increasing demand for destinations that are both accessible and rich in short-term experience.
Destinations such as Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon and Vung Tau continue to attract tourists thanks to the harmonious combination of resorts, local experiences and convenient transportation connections. Meanwhile, Phu Quoc still maintains strong growth momentum in tourism demand this summer, thanks to the development of airlines.
Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Thy - Country Director of Traveloka said: "Summer data this year shows that tourists are having a new approach to domestic tourism. High-class sea and island vacations still retain their appeal. But besides that, more and more Vietnamese tourists see sea trips as an easy-to-reach and more frequent option, rather than just dreamy vacations. They are booking more short trips, with higher frequency and greater proactiveness. Traveloka's role is to make the entire journey as simple, convenient and seamless as possible.
This trend shows that summer tourism is no longer just about going further or staying longer, but is shifting to experiences that are more suitable for the time fund, personal needs and lifestyle of modern tourists.
