"Father and Son Soldier" is a documentary film broadcast by the Documentary Center, Vietnam Television on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army.
The work colorfully depicts the historical traditions of Vietnam during the period 1944 - 2024. During the two resistance wars to save the country, our army and people stood side by side on all fronts, creating a combined strength to gain independence and freedom for the nation.
In just 60 minutes of the film, the audience gets to listen to the stories of military families, from high-ranking generals, military commanders directly on the battlefield to current Uncle Ho soldiers in the North and South...
That is the family of veteran - Colonel Pham Huu Giap with 3 generations of soldiers. He joined the army in 1968 as a soldier of Battalion 44B, Ha Tinh Military Command, then went on a combat mission on the Central Laos front.
Mr. Giap's wife, Mrs. Bui Thi Huong, was also a nurse who fought on the front lines in Laos. They met in the midst of "bombs and bullets", got married and had 3 children together.
Of these, the first two children followed their parents' footsteps into the military. The eldest child, Pham Thi Linh Nhan, and her husband are both soldiers, working at the Military Medical Department - Ministry of National Defense. The second child is Lieutenant Colonel Pham Huu Tien - Political Commissar of the Team for Collecting Martyrs' Remains in Laos, under the Ha Tinh Military Command.
Or the story of the family of Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Hien - former Deputy Commander of the 370th Air Division, Air Defense - Air Force. He was the one who trained and gave wings to the dream of conquering the sky for his twin sons.
Currently, Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Hien's two sons are both in the Air Defense - Air Force. Meanwhile, his father is officer Nguyen Ngoc Bich - who sacrificed his life on the Cambodian battlefield in 1979.
These are just a few of the families whose spouses, parents, and relatives are serving in the military. Through their words and actions, they are affirming that no matter the conditions, circumstances, hardships, or sacrifices, the Vietnamese military remains absolutely loyal to the country.
At the end of the film, the audience also learns more about the veterans who are still silently searching for and bringing back the remains of their friends and comrades who died on the old battlefield to their homeland.
Throughout the work is a song about patriotism, military tradition, and the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers that permeate the hearts of soldiers, continuing forever. The film is both touching with old memories and filled with the spirit of the young generation following in the footsteps of their ancestors, determined to protect the country's borders and peace for the nation.
