From October 5, 2026, some people who are receiving a social pension of 540,000 VND/month may be dismissed if they no longer meet the conditions according to regulations or have passed away.
Who is eligible for social pension benefits?
According to Article 2 of Decree 176/2025/ND-CP, there are currently 2 groups of subjects entitled to monthly social pension benefits, including:
Vietnamese citizens from 75 years old or older.
Vietnamese citizens from 70 years old to under 75 years old belonging to poor or near-poor households.
People belonging to the above groups must meet the conditions according to regulations to receive monthly social pension benefits.
When will the 540,000 VND/month allowance be terminated?
According to Article 4 of Decree 176/2025/ND-CP, amended and supplemented by Article 32 of Decree 335/2026/ND-CP, in case a person currently receiving social pension benefits dies or is no longer eligible to receive social pension benefits, they will be dismissed.
The regulation clearly states that the Chairman of the Commune-level People's Committee decides to terminate the enjoyment of social pension benefits for these cases.
The time of retirement is determined from the month immediately after the beneficiary dies or is no longer eligible for social pension benefits.
Thus, according to the above regulations, from October 5, 2026, the social pension allowance of 540,000 VND/month will be terminated for beneficiaries when they fall into one of two cases:
Social pension beneficiaries have died.
Beneficiaries are no longer eligible to continue receiving social pension benefits as prescribed.
For the group of people from 70 years old to under 75 years old, continuing to enjoy is also associated with the condition of being a poor household or near-poor household. Therefore, if they no longer meet the conditions for enjoying according to regulations, they may be terminated from enjoying.
Notably, the termination of benefits does not necessarily start immediately in the month of the event. According to regulations, the termination period is calculated from the month immediately after the beneficiary dies or the month when they are no longer eligible for benefits.
