The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just signed a decision approving the Plan for the architectural competition for the complete construction of the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection and the Nguyen Huu Tho - Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway intersection.
These are two key projects in component project 1 of the North - South axis road upgrade project (Nguyen Huu Tho Street, section from Nguyen Van Linh to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway).
According to the plan, the recruitment contest will be held about 75 days after the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approves the plan, with a widespread recruitment contest, not limiting the number of participating units. Registration consulting organizations will be considered for capacity, invited to participate in the design round and publicly score.
The Admissions Council will select an optimal architectural plan that is feasible, modern, unique and will create a highlight for the gateway area of the city.

In component project 1, the estimated cost of compensation, resettlement support and relocation of technical infrastructure is 1,426 billion VND from the city budget, affecting 36 households, including 19 households in District 7 (formerly Nguyen Van Linh intersection area) and 17 households in Nha Be district.

The project to complete the construction of the two intersections Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho and Nguyen Huu Tho - Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway has a total investment of VND 2,400 billion, also using Ho Chi Minh City budget capital.
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City spent VND830 billion on the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection to build two two-way underpasses on Nguyen Van Linh Street.

In addition, component project 2 will upgrade and expand the North - South axis road under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form, with a total investment of VND 6,106 billion.
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is also organizing a competition for the architectural plan for the main overpass (elevated road) project, about 6.62 km long, with a total length of more than 8 km of the project.
The elevated road is designed with a cross-section of 18.5 m, including 4 car lanes (2 lanes in each direction), completely separate from the parallel road system for people below. The elevated route is only for cars, not arranged for motorbikes or rudimentary vehicles.
The up and down branches will be arranged at Rach Dia bridge, near Nguyen Van Tao intersection and the area between routes (near the intersection of the road connecting warehouse B).

The total investment for the entire North-South axis is nearly VND9,900 billion. It is expected that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will select an investor and sign a contract in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The site clearance work is expected to be implemented from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the third quarter of 2026.
Component project 1 will start construction in the fourth quarter of 2025, while component project 2 is expected to start construction in the first quarter of 2026 and be completed in 2028.

After being expanded and the elevated road is built, the North-South axis will become a fast and smooth traffic axis, connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the South Saigon urban area, the city - Hiep Phuoc port and large industrial parks in the South.
In particular, this route plays an important focus, connecting Ring Road 2 with Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway (Ring Road 3) and later Ring Road 4, contributing to increasing inter-regional traffic capacity between Ho Chi Minh City and the Eastern and Southwestern provinces, while connecting the seaport system and Long Thanh international airport.
