According to local residents, when Tri An hydroelectric reservoir released floodwaters, fish followed the water to the foot of the spillway. When the dam is closed and the flood discharge is stopped, the water will recede, causing fish to get stuck under the spillway area and people can easily catch fish with a "huge" size and weight, up to more than 10kg.
The types of fish that people catch include many types such as silver carp, giant catfish, yellow catfish, red-tailed catfish, silver carp, black carp... After that, people sell the fish right at the foot of the dam, many people earn millions of dong.
On the morning of October 19, people from wards such as Tran Bien, Tan Trieu ward, Trang Dai ward... (Dong Nai province), Ho Chi Minh City people brought fishing gear such as fish, nets, nets, fish cakes, buoys, small boats, sacks and foam boxes to catch fish and contain fish.
To ensure safety, from early morning the local authorities have deployed forces to be on duty at the dam gates, propagating and instructing people not to encroach deep into dangerous areas, ensuring safety. People carrying electric shock devices are not allowed to fish.
Mr. Ha, residing in Tran Bien ward, Dong Nai province, said that it was the first time he went to see the festive atmosphere of people hunting for fish at the foot of Tri An dam.
According to many people, every time Tri An hydropower plant closes its floodgate, it is like "heaven's lucky money" because many people can earn millions. People share that red-tailed catfish is the most bought fish because of its high economic value, the price ranges from 300,000 VND - 500,000 VND/kg, depending on the weight, the larger the fish, the higher the value.
According to Tri An Hydropower Company, at 9:00 a.m. on October 19, the lake's water level reached 61.3m. Depending on the weather, water flow to the lake, water level of Tri An Hydropower Reservoir, water level downstream of the river at Bien Hoa hydrological station, the company can regulate the discharge of water through the spillway.
