At about 1 pm on September 4, fishing vessel BTh 96271TS, with a capacity of 125 CV, carrying 6 workers, captained by Mr. T.V. V (born 1977), on the way to La Gi port after a sea trip, ran aground.
The ship was then breached and sank. 6 crew members on board promptly swam ashore safely. Property damage is estimated at about 200 million VND.
About 30 minutes later, another fishing boat continued to encounter an accident in this area. Boat BTh 82700TS, with a capacity of 20 CV, including 2 workers owned and captained by Mr. N.V.A (born 1978), also ran aground when entering the port and then sank.
Two crew members on the ship promptly swam ashore safely. Property damage is estimated at about 150 million VND.
After two shipwrecks occurred, ship owners contacted support vehicles to pull the ship into the port area to carry out salvage.
La Gi port gate belongs to Phuoc Hoi ward, Lam Dong province. Over the past time, this area has experienced many incidents of fishing boats stranding and sinking when entering and leaving the port. Previously, there was a shipwreck that killed a crew member.
To overcome this situation, the La Gi estuary dredging and channel clearing project has been implemented. At the end of July, leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province inspected the project progress and requested the investor to direct the construction unit to accelerate the dredging and channel clearing.
The Department's leaders also requested to prepare a plan to terminate the project if the implementation continues to be delayed.
