On July 8, the Department of Construction of An Giang province provided information at the periodic press briefing on the slow progress of the project to invest in the construction of a bridge on the coastal road connecting An Bien - Rach Gia city (now Tay Yen commune - Rach Gia ward).
According to the Department of Construction, the Department and localities have strengthened inspection and supervision of project construction progress through periodic and unscheduled inspections at the site. At the same time, many directing and urging documents have been issued to request the Project Management Board, supervision consultants and contractors to focus on accelerating progress and promptly removing arising difficulties and obstacles. Board meetings are also held regularly to review progress, assess implementation volume and propose specific solutions for each stage.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lan, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of An Giang province, said that for cases where contractors are behind schedule, functional agencies have resolutely terminated contracts according to regulations, and at the same time requested to complete procedures for handing over volume and site to select and supplement new contractors with more capacity to ensure the overall progress of the project. Previously, this contractor had been repeatedly reminded and criticized by the investor and issued a written warning, but still did not mobilize sufficient manpower, equipment and materials to organize construction as committed, seriously affecting the progress, quality and overall efficiency of the package.

Currently, contractors are simultaneously deploying construction with 12 fronts on both Rach Gia and An Bien banks. The construction force has been mobilized to the maximum, including many engineers, technical staff and skilled workers (about 83 people, not including workers at the factory), organizing continuous shift work," Mr. Lan said.
Regarding equipment, the units have arranged sufficient modern machinery such as bored pile boring machines, tower cranes, track cranes, excavators, transport vehicles, barges, concrete mixing stations and specialized construction equipment on the river. The main items being deployed include bored pile boring, SW road pile driving on the island, roof girder pouring, girder casting at the factory, sand pumping, ground leveling for construction, concrete mixing station construction, preparation for steel arch construction at the factory.
Thanks to the strengthening of human resources, equipment and drastic direction from functional agencies, the project progress is gradually being improved and striving to be completed according to the set plan.
The project to invest in the construction of a bridge on the coastal road connecting An Bien - Rach Gia city (now Tay Yen commune - Rach Gia ward) has a total investment of 3,900 billion VND. The project uses provincial budget capital, is implemented from 2025 to 2029, with a scale of 6 lanes with a total length of 3,500m, including a bridge over 2 estuary gates Cai Lon, Cai Be, with a length of 1,440m, a bridge over a river branch 156m long, connecting road sections and auxiliary works such as drainage system, artistic lighting, sea viewing landscape, intersections, ensuring traffic safety, and other auxiliary works.
The project is identified as one of the strategically significant projects, connecting the coastal road, connecting the inter-regional An Giang and Ca Mau, creating new impetus for socio-economic development, responding to climate change, making an important contribution to ensuring security and defense, opening up a development space towards the West Sea for the province and being the gateway connecting the Mekong Delta region, and the basis for marine economic development.
