The Hanoi - Quang Ninh high-speed railway project is about 120km long, of which the section passing through Quang Ninh province is nearly 40km long, passing through 7 wards: Mao Khe, Hoang Que, Yen Tu, Uong Bi, Dong Mai, Ha An and Tuan Chau.
The total area to be recovered is about 273.13ha (out of a total of about 278ha of the entire project in the province), of which the total area to be cleared (GPMB) is 156.22ha.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ninh province, to date, localities have cleared 24.9ha (117 households, individuals and 1 organization), reaching 15.9%; completed the recovery of 33.46ha of public land managed by localities (reaching 100%); and handed over 48.69ha (reaching 25.8% of the total area of the entire route) to investors.
In particular, Tuan Chau and Mao Khe wards have completed and handed over the entire site to the investor.
According to Mr. Ngoc Thai Hoang - Deputy Director of Quang Ninh Department of Agriculture and Environment - Quang Ninh province is currently focusing highly on confirming the origin of land, publicizing compensation plans and paying money to people.

To implement the progress of completing site clearance and handing over to the investor before September 30, 2026, Quang Ninh province has mobilized 21 highly specialized officials and experts from departments and branches to wards and established mobile teams to support site clearance for the project.
Previously, on April 15, 2026, Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee issued a decision to establish a working group headed by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to implement the project.
Along with that, Quang Ninh province has decided to allocate 2,760 billion VND to carry out site clearance for the section passing through Quang Ninh.
The Hanoi - Quang Ninh high-speed railway project was started on April 12, 2026, invested by VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (Vingroup Group), with a total investment of more than 147,000 billion VND (excluding site clearance).
The route is designed with a double track, 1,435mm gauge, electrified, maximum speed of 350km/h (the section passing through Hanoi is 120km/h). The technology, signal, and equipment are expected to be provided by Siemens Mobility (Germany), along with a technology transfer roadmap.
The entire route has more than 3,400 bridge piers, of which the section passing through Quang Ninh is about 1,108 piers. Notably, most of the route is elevated (about 116km), only about 4km is on the ground.
The route starts at Co Loa station (Hanoi), ends at Ha Long station; passes through Gia Binh, Ninh Xa and Yen Tu transit stations, along with a depot located in Ha Long.
After completion, it is expected that in 2028, the travel time from Hanoi to Ha Long on this railway line will be only about 30 minutes; frequency of 30 minutes/trip, expected output of more than 2 million passengers/year in 2028 and over 15 million passengers in 2050.
