On January 23, Vinh Phong Commune Police (An Giang) said that they had just coordinated with functional forces to receive 4 otters, which are endangered, precious, and rare wild animals voluntarily handed over by people in the area. These otters will be re-released to the natural environment according to regulations.
Previously, while returning from work, Mr. Nguyen Van Ven (born in 1984, residing in Cai Nhum hamlet, Vinh Phong commune, An Giang province) discovered 4 otters. Recognizing that these are rare wild animals on the list of animals that need to be protected, Mr. Ven proactively brought the above individuals to Vinh Phong Commune Police to hand over.

Immediately after receiving them, Vinh Phong Commune Police coordinated with Zone VI Forest Protection Department, U Minh Thuong National Park and the Wildlife Conservation Center in Vietnam to inspect the health status of the otters.
Through verification, this species is on the list of endangered, precious, and rare species prioritized for protection according to Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government. After completing the procedures according to regulations, 4 otters have been handed over to specialized agencies for rescue, care, restoration of wild habits and waiting for re-release to the natural environment in the near future.
The voluntary handover of rare and precious wild animals by people continues to affirm the effectiveness of propaganda and legal mobilization of the grassroots police force. At the same time, it demonstrates the people's sense of responsibility in protecting forest animals, contributing to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development of ecosystems in the locality.
