5 students in Phu Tho missing in Red River

Phu Tho - 5 8th grade students from Hien Quan Secondary School, Tam Nong District are missing, suspected of drowning while swimming in the Red River.

Present at the scene on the evening of November 18, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper recorded that the authorities were searching for the missing students on the Red River, passing through Hien Quan commune, Tam Nong district (near Ngoc Thap bridge).

Traffic diversion and security work have been deployed, search and rescue teams have been mobilized; many curious locals have gathered on the riverbank, despite the rainy weather.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Le Trung Huyen - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hien Quan commune said: "Initially, the 5 missing students are suspected to have gone missing while bathing in the river. The authorities are trying to search for them, but the exact details of the incident have not yet been determined."

According to a teacher at Hien Quan Secondary School, the five missing students are all in 8th grade at the school. They have a day off this afternoon.
