On the morning of November 16, leaders of Tuy An District People's Committee (Phu Yen Province) mobilized military, police and local people to search for a male student who went missing while swimming in Nhon Hoi village (An Hoa Hai commune, Tuy An district).
Previously, at 4:00 p.m. on November 15, 4 students of class 10A5 of Le Thanh Phuong High School (An My commune, Tuy An district) went to the beach in Nhon Hoi village to swim.
At around 5pm, Le Binh Quoc V (born in 2009, resident of Phu Phong village, An Hiep commune) was swept away by the waves and drowned. Upon discovering the incident, 3 students in the group went ashore to call for help, but V was swept away by the water and went missing.
Understanding the incident, Tuy An district, along with functional forces and hundreds of people, went to the area where V drowned to search. However, as of this morning, V has not been found.
In recent days, Phu Yen province has had scattered rain and rough seas. According to rescue forces, during rough seas, rip currents appear very strong at most beaches in Phu Yen, making drowning cases likely to occur.
Research by the Phu Yen Department of Natural Resources and Environment shows that from October of the previous year to March of the following year, Phu Yen beaches often have rip currents (rip currents are a type of unusual flow structure that separates the shore and heads offshore). To avoid danger to life, locals and tourists should not swim in the sea during the rough sea season.
