Lao Dong Newspaper readers support poor student with eye defects

HUE - Lao Dong Newspaper readers have supported Quy Duong - a 5th grade student with particularly difficult circumstances and unclear eyesight.

On the afternoon of September 13, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, on behalf of readers, presented 17 million VND to support Quy Duong, a 5th grade student at Phu An Primary School, My Thuong ward, Hue city. The person who received the money was Ms. Ho Thi Hoa, Duong's grandmother.

Previously, on September 5, 2026, Lao Dong Newspaper published a report "The road to school of a poor student with disabled eyes", talking about Quy Duong's difficult circumstances. After the article, Lao Dong Newspaper readers donated 17 million VND to support him.

Receiving the money, Ms. Ho Thi Hoa emotionally said that this is a large amount of money that her family has never had. "I have never had such a large amount of money, grateful to the readers of Lao Dong Newspaper for supporting and encouraging her," Ms. Hoa shared.

Quy Duong was born in 2016, currently a 5th grade student at Phu An Elementary School. Since childhood, he has suffered from eye disease, his left eye cannot see, and his right eye is only blurred. His family has taken him for treatment and surgery many times, but his condition has not improved.

Duong's parents divorced, his mother left many years ago. His father had to work in construction in Hung Yen to earn money to treat his son's illness. In his hometown, Duong lives with his paternal grandparents, 6th grade older brother and 3rd grade younger sister. Mrs. Hoa sells fish every day, earning about 50,000 - 100,000 VND/day to take care of living, studying and medicine for the children.

Although his eyes could not see clearly, Duong still tried to go to school. Every day, he cycled himself from home to Phu An Elementary School.

Ms. Nguyen Dao Hanh Chi - Vice Principal of Phu An Primary School said that the article about Duong's situation of Lao Dong Newspaper has been spread to the community. The school and teachers, parents are also mobilizing to support him.

The school always creates maximum conditions for cases like Duong, and at the same time encourages and supports him to go to school. I hope he will try to overcome his illness to continue his studies," Ms. Chi shared.

Today, it's raining, the weather has changed, making Duong's illness worse. Duong is exhausted, just wants to lie down and rest. But when I learned that the Lao Dong Newspaper uncles came to visit, I still tried to come out to welcome and thank those who have shown concern and sharing for me.

For Duong, that encouragement is not only the support money, but also the feelings of those who have never met him but still want to give him a little strength to overcome his illness and continue to go to school. The 17 million VND support from Lao Dong Newspaper readers will help the family have more conditions to take care of his treatment and study.
