The special warning issued by Hanoi Electricity Corporation stated: According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, strong winds from this afternoon and tonight, September 7, will affect the districts of Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da, Long Bien, Tay Ho, Cau Giay, Hoang Mai, Thanh Xuan, Ha Dong, Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, and the districts of Gia Lam, Hoai Duc, Dan Phuong, Thanh Tri, Thuong Tin, Thanh Oai, My Duc, Ung Hoa, Phu Xuyen, Chuong My, Dong Anh, Soc Son, Me Linh, with strong winds of level 5, level 6, then increasing to level 7, level 8, gusting to level 10.
On the afternoon and night of September 7, Son Tay town and Ba Vi, Thach That, Quoc Oai, and Phuc Tho districts had strong winds of level 4 and 5, then increasing to level 6 and 7, gusting to level 9.
The strongest winds are expected to be from the evening to the night of September 7. The impact of strong winds is forecast to cause roofs to be blown off, houses to be damaged, trees to be broken, affecting agricultural production and infrastructure. The natural disaster risk level due to the storm is level 3.
To proactively cope with natural disasters that may be caused by storm No. 3 making landfall directly on Hanoi city, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Hanoi Electricity Corporation ordered its affiliated units to:
Organize the implementation of the Special Alarm Order (implement load shedding when necessary and according to the plan to ensure electrical safety for the people and at the same time prepare materials, equipment, medical instruments... to deploy search and rescue, overcome the power grid outage as quickly as possible when the storm subsides.
Strictly comply with the Electrical Safety Procedure to ensure absolute safety for people and equipment when carrying out disaster recovery work). Require readiness to mobilize 100% of staff to organize disaster recovery immediately after the storm according to the direction of the Corporation.
Vietnam Electricity Group - EVN also said that as of 2:00 p.m. on September 7, due to the impact of very strong winds and heavy rains of storm No. 3 Yagi, many 500kV and 220kV power transmission lines in Quang Ninh and Hai Phong areas had problems, and some power transmission lines were proactively cut off to ensure safety.
Regarding the distribution grid, EVN representative said that due to the impact of the storm, by 2:00 p.m. on September 7, almost all of the load in Quang Ninh province and 80% of the load in Hai Phong city had lost power due to problems with many medium-voltage lines.
After the storm passes and strong winds gradually decrease, the restoration of operations and power supply will be urgently deployed.
Information from the Northern Power Corporation also said that at 1:00 p.m. on September 7, Typhoon Yagi directly affected the mainland provinces of Quang Ninh - Hai Phong. The storm was at level 11-12, with gusts of level 13-14, causing power supply disruptions to many customers in these two provinces and cities.
The storm caused a breakdown of 76 medium voltage lines and disrupted power supply to more than 238,000 customers in Quang Ninh. An estimated 40% of customers in the province lost power. The affected areas were mainly in Mong Cai, Hai Ha, Binh Lieu, Tien Yen, Ba Che, Van Don, Co To, Ha Long, and Quang Yen.
Quang Ninh Electricity Company has mobilized more than 600 staff members to be on duty at units to be ready to fix problems immediately after the storm subsides.
In Hai Phong city, the storm caused widespread power outages, with a total of about 400,000 customers without power.
In Thai Binh, the storm's impact also caused many medium-voltage power grid problems, causing about 570,000 customers to lose power.
In Thanh Hoa, as of 2:00 p.m. on September 7, there was heavy rain. The number of customers without power was nearly 12,000.
Power companies have prepared sufficient human resources, materials, and equipment so that after the storm, they can promptly check, fix problems, and restore power to customers.
