Oceanographic Museum explains camera interruption when tourists lose their phones

Khanh Hoa - The Oceanographic Museum refutes information that it intentionally turned off the camera when tourists lost their phones and said the recording interruption was due to a power outage.

On June 21, the Oceanographic Museum under the Institute of Oceanography is still continuing to monitor and coordinate with the police agency to handle information reflected by tourists related to property loss during the visit.

Previously, information appeared on social networks that the camera system at the Oceanographic Museum was "turned off" when tourists lost their phones.

Regarding this content, the Museum of Oceanography has officially responded, affirming that the above information is inaccurate.

According to the Oceanographic Museum, the unit received feedback from newspapers and social networks about 2 tourists reporting losing their phones during a visit on the morning of June 19.

The museum sends condolences to tourists who unfortunately encounter property loss incidents, and also said that safety and the experience of tourists are always a priority in service activities.

Immediately after receiving the information, museum staff supported and directly took tourists to functional agencies to report. At the same time, recognizing that the incident may be related to theft taking advantage of crowded times and the process of switching power sources, the unit reported to functional agencies to support the investigation and ensure security at the sightseeing spot.

Regarding the information that "the camera is broken" or "intentionally turned off the camera", the Oceanographic Museum affirms that this is inaccurate information.

According to this unit, in fact, the camera system was interrupted due to a power outage according to the plan of Khanh Hoa Power Joint Stock Company. The power outage time is from 4 am to about 10 am on June 19 to serve the maintenance and repair of the power grid.

When the power source was cut off, the museum's technical team operated backup generators to maintain operation in important areas.

However, the transition time from grid power to generator caused the camera system to take a while to restart, leading to recording interruption.

The Museum of Oceanography said this is an objective technical incident, without interference from the system operator.

The unit also admitted that the security guard's initial information to tourists that the "camera is broken" was inaccurate, stemming from limitations in communication, insufficient expression of the situation of interruption due to power outages during a busy time, leading to misunderstandings.

The leadership of the Oceanographic Museum has requested the security team to seriously draw experience in communication and supporting tourists.

On June 20, the museum implemented a number of security enhancement solutions such as strengthening internal patrol forces in crowded areas and arranging additional warning signs for visitors to pay attention to protecting personal property.
