Dak Lak - Faced with the increasing risk of rabies, local authorities set a target of vaccinating dogs and cats to over 80%.

On March 29, the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) said that rabies in the area is developing complicatedly. In many remote areas, people are still subjective and have not vaccinated their livestock, increasing the risk of new outbreaks.

Since the beginning of the year, the province has recorded 4 cases, including 1 death and many suspected cases.

Faced with this situation, the Provincial People's Committee requested localities to promote propaganda and guide people to strictly implement regulations on keeping dogs and cats in captivity and vaccinating against rabies for dogs and cats.

Pet owners must commit not to let pets roam freely; when taking dogs to public places, there must be muzzles, chains and people to lead them. The goal for 2026 is that over 80% of the total dog and cat population will be vaccinated.

Collectives, individuals and heads who are negligent and irresponsible in rabies prevention and control will be reviewed and strictly handled.

The Department of Finance is assigned to advise on allocating sufficient resources to effectively implement epidemic prevention measures according to the 2022-2030 plan.

Mr. Hoang Hai Phuc - Director of the Provincial CDC said that in some places, the coordination between the health sector, veterinary medicine and local authorities is not close. Thereby, causing difficulties for propaganda and epidemic prevention and control in remote areas.

Buon Don Commune People's Committee has announced a rabies epidemic in animals.

The threatening epidemic area within a radius of 3km includes Ea Mar, Tri, Ea Rong B hamlets and Thong Nhat village; the buffer zone of 10km includes Jang Lanh hamlet and Drang Phok hamlet.
