On the morning of November 28, Pho Quang Border Guard Station (Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command) said that the unit had just detained and assigned forces to monitor a strange object resembling a maritime buoy of unknown origin that had drifted ashore in Duc Pho town.
Pho Quang Border Guard Station informed that at around 10:00 p.m. on November 26, Mr. To Van Duong, residing in Pho An commune, Duc Pho town, was walking along the beach collecting scrap when he discovered a strange cylindrical object drifting ashore.
Immediately afterwards, Mr. Duong reported to Pho Quang Border Guard Station. The authorities who approached the scene determined that the strange object was painted yellow on the body and metal pole at the top, the bottom was painted dark brown, about 4 meters in diameter, and about 5 meters in total height. Around the object were many Chinese characters and the words "China Buoy".
Pho Quang Border Guard Station sent forces to stand guard at the location where the strange object was discovered and tied a rope and anchored it. According to the authorities, the floating object resembles a Lidar buoy, which has the ability to continuously monitor and measure offshore meteorological and oceanographic technical parameters, such as: Wind conditions, waves, currents and other environmental factors.

Previously, on November 24, while patrolling to protect the border, the Border Guard Station of Binh Thanh, Binh Son District, Quang Ngai Province and local people discovered 3 white, cylindrical metal tanks, measuring 6 x 2.5m, drifting to the coastal area of Le Thuy Village, Binh Tri Commune. The 3 gas tanks had an empty weight of over 3,500kg each.
On November 26, authorities in Quang Ngai also discovered 17 bags of suspected marijuana drifting ashore in Binh Son district.
