On August 25, the Command (BTL) of Coast Guard Region 4 said that it had promptly mobilized forces and vehicles to support fishing vessel AG-939xx-TS which was breached and at risk of sinking while operating in the Southwest sea area.
Specifically, on the evening of August 24, a fishing vessel was fishing in the area about 35 nautical miles southwest of Ganh Dau (Phu Quoc), belonging to the historical waters of Vietnam - Cambodia, when it broke into water and flooded the engine room.
Receiving the news at 9:30 PM, Coast Guard Region 4 Command dispatched ship 371, which was on duty in the Southwest sea, to quickly maneuver to the scene for support. At 11:30 PM on the same day, ship 371 approached the fishing boat, deploying a working group and anti-submersion equipment to support the fishing boat.
Through inspection, the initial cause was determined to be due to the weather in the area with big waves and winds causing water to overflow into the engine room; the flooding depth is about 2m. Functional forces of the Regional Command have coordinated with fishing boats operating near the area to use pumps and anti-submersion equipment, deploying plans to prevent water and pump water out of the engine room.
By 0:30 on August 25, fishing boats had basically been supported with pumping and suctioning water, and there was no longer a risk of sinking. Functional forces of Coast Guard Region 4 Command are continuing to monitor and grasp the situation, ready to support fishing boats as well as other vehicles operating in the area.
The ship AG-939xx-TS includes 16 crew members, engaged in pair trawling, captain residing in Phu An commune, An Giang province. Timely support for fishing vessels in distress shows the spirit of responsibility and proactiveness of Coast Guard officers and soldiers, contributing to ensuring the safety of life and property of fishermen, helping fishermen to feel secure in going to sea and sticking to the sea.
