On September 24, a representative of the People's Committee of Yen Thang commune, Lang Chanh district, Thanh Hoa province said that a family in the area was lucky to escape thanks to timely evacuation before the landslide hit.
Previously, at noon on September 23, local authorities realized that the house of Mr. Lo Van Sy (32 years old, in Van village, Yen Thang commune) was at risk of landslides, so they went to his house to persuade and propagate for his family to evacuate to a safe place.
At around 3:00 p.m. the same day, Mr. Sy's wife and two young children were evacuated to a relative's house, while Mr. Sy stayed behind to pack his belongings and left the house at 5:00 p.m.
At around 5:30 p.m., a landslide struck, causing the family's house to collapse completely, causing damage to some property.
"We are very lucky. If we had not been evacuated in time, we do not know what the consequences would have been," said a representative of the People's Committee of Yen Thang commune.
