Authorities have found the bodies of 44 victims and are actively searching for 51 people missing in the landslide that buried Lang Nu village in Lao Cai.
According to information from the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, as of the afternoon of September 12, authorities had found 44 bodies of victims of the landslide in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district. The historic flood that occurred at 6am on September 10 caused landslides that buried Lang Nu village with 37 households and 158 people living there. At this time, the authorities have mobilized hundreds of people to join the search for the missing victims. In particular, Military Region 2 deployed 300 officers from Regiment 98 (Division 316) along with 125 soldiers from the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command and militia and people to participate in the search and rescue. What remained after the flood passed was a scene of devastation and destruction. The buffalo - the owner of the farmer's fortune - was lucky to escape death.Family members look forward every day to finding the bodies of father, mother, husband, and children to bury. The erratic weather and the continued risk of landslides make rescue work even more difficult and arduous.Mrs. Long Thi Hen (residing in Pho Rang town, Bao Yen district) put her head on the coffin and cried because after 3 days she still could not find her daughter's body in the flood. "Both my daughter and son-in-law were buried in this village. Because there were no waves, I just heard the news and ran here. People found my son-in-law and buried him, but my daughter is still missing," Mrs. Hen choked up.According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper, most of the survivors were not at home at the time of the flood or were rescued in time. Most of the families and survivors were left alone. Less fortunate were the whole families buried under the rocks. On September 12, information from the Lao Cai Department of Health said that the unit is implementing environmental sanitation and disinfection at risk areas, strengthening disease prevention and control. At the same time, it is organizing monitoring, promptly detecting and thoroughly handling outbreaks of infectious diseases that occur during and after the storm.Lao Cai Provincial Party Secretary Dang Xuan Phong said: “Authorities are actively searching for the remaining 51 missing people in Lang Nu village. But the possibility of finding anyone alive is almost zero. The province is arranging and setting up a resettlement area so that people can soon overcome their loss and stabilize their lives.”
