Faced with the serious landslide situation , on the afternoon of September 6, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province officially proposed to the Central Government for urgent support for the province to carry out 3 projects to overcome particularly serious landslides.
The three projects are arranged in order of priority, including: Investment project to build an anti-erosion embankment on the East coast from Ho Gui to Bo De, length 7,556m, cost of 400 billion VND; Investment project to build an anti-erosion embankment on the East coast from Kien Vang to Ong Ta, length 6,254m, cost of 350 billion VND; Investment project to build an anti-erosion embankment on the East coast from Canal 5 O Ro to Vam Xoay, length 7,130m, cost of 550 billion VND.
Statistics from the People's Committee of Ca Mau province show that over the past 10 years, under the impact of climate change causing rising sea levels, along with land subsidence , plus other extreme weather patterns, the coastline of Ca Mau province has become increasingly eroded.
Through review, the total length of the coastal sections with especially dangerous erosion and dangerous erosion is currently about 83.85 km. Of which, the West coast is experiencing dangerous erosion for 22 km; the East coast is experiencing especially dangerous erosion for 61.85 km.
The People's Committee of Ca Mau province issued Decision No. 1527/QD-UBND dated August 24, 2023 on declaring a natural disaster emergency situation for particularly dangerous landslide sections (06 projects).
In recent times, the province has mobilized all resources to overcome the consequences caused by landslides. However, due to the large scale of landslides and their complex nature, there are still many serious landslide locations that have not been handled due to lack of funds. In addition, the landslide situation has not shown any signs of stopping, landslides occur continuously, so the risk of human life and property is always present if not promptly remedied.
