Nurtured through generations
In July, at DNA sample collection points for relatives of martyrs in Ca Mau, many people quietly brought dossiers, photos and memories of relatives who sacrificed for the Fatherland. Each collected biological sample not only serves DNA testing but also sends hope to close the decades-long search journey of many families.
During this peak period, Ca Mau Provincial Police arranged 3 fixed collection points at the Provincial Police headquarters, Cai Nuoc Commune Police and Gia Rai Ward Police; and at the same time established many mobile working groups to go to the homes of elderly, sick or difficult martyrs' relatives to support them.
Over 80 years old, Ms. Khong Thi Sau (Tan Thanh ward) is still painfully searching for the resting place of her sacrificed older brother.
The family has been searching for many years but still does not know where he will be buried. I just hope I still have enough health to know where he will rest" - Mrs. Sau emotionally shared.
In Khanh Hung commune, police officers and medical staff traveled many stages, crossing ferries to reach the house of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tot, younger sister of martyr Nguyen Van Hoa, to collect biological samples because she was no longer strong enough to reach the gathering point.
The family is very grateful that the officials came to the house to support. We hope to soon have more information about our loved ones" - Mr. Vo Van Da, Ms. Tot's son, said.
In just three days of peak period, working groups went to homes to collect biological samples for more than 100 relatives of old and weak martyrs, sick or facing travel difficulties. Those trips not only facilitated people but also expressed gratitude through actions for families who have contributed and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
That spirit is the continuation of the tradition of "Gratitude" that Bac Lieu and Ca Mau have persistently cultivated for nearly three decades since the province was re-established in 1997.
In Bac Lieu, previously, the model "Supporting poor and near-poor policy households", the socialization program to build more than 5,100 gratitude houses, supporting 100% of living Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, has become bright spots in the work of caring for people with meritorious services. Meanwhile, Ca Mau mobilized the Gratitude Fund, built hundreds of gratitude houses, supported livelihoods and mobilized millions of working days of people to care for policy families.
To date, Ca Mau province has nearly 183,000 people under policy, of which more than 21,000 are receiving monthly allowances. In addition to fully implementing the State's regime, the locality continues to mobilize social resources to build gratitude houses, support economic development, create jobs, and care for and educate children of people with meritorious services, contributing to improving material and spiritual life.
Patriotic tradition education for the younger generation
To celebrate the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, Ca Mau province has implemented many practical activities such as starting construction and striving to complete 369 houses for children of resistance activists; organizing delegations to visit and give gifts to policy families, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers and people with meritorious services; offering incense and flowers at martyrs' cemeteries; upgrading and repairing martyrs' memorial works; and building the Temple of Remembrance for Heroes and Martyrs in Tan Xuyen ward, contributing to patriotism education for the young generation.
Each house built, each gift given, each DNA sample collected or each martyr's remains identified are specific actions expressing gratitude to those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation. That is also how the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source", "Gratitude" continues to be preserved and spread through actions.
