The birth of the new plan is very necessary after more than 16 years of implementing the old plan (approved in 2008), in which many targets have met or exceeded the original forecast.
According to the new plan, the Port's figures are adjusted and updated to forecast until 2030, with a vision to 2050 in sync with the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 648/QD-TTg dated June 7, 2023.
The airport will be expanded to level 4E according to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), aiming for modern international airport standards, meeting the increasing demand for passenger and cargo transport in the future. Of which, with a capacity expected to reach 10 million passengers/year by 2030 and 18 million passengers/year by 2050.
The planning also focuses on building new and synchronously expanding items such as: Passenger terminal; Depot system, cargo terminal, technical infrastructure and aviation services. The important point of the plan is to add an area of nearly 200 hectares, bringing the total land area expected to be 1,050 hectares, to ensure long-term development.

The planning target for the period 2021-2030, Phu Quoc International Airport will achieve airport status 4E (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO), with a capacity of about 10 million passengers/year and 25,000 tons of cargo/year; the type of aircraft exploited is Boeing B747, B787, Airbus A350 and equivalent.
Vision to 2050, the Port will be granted airport status 4E (according to ICAO's standard code), with a capacity of about 18 million passengers/year and 50,000 tons of cargo/year.
