On May 9, in Phu Quoc City, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province coordinated with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to organize a conference to announce the Phu Quoc International Airport Planning.
According to Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee - Giang Thanh Khoa, Phu Quoc International Airport is one of the important gateways connecting Vietnam with the region and the world, playing a strategic and important role in the socio-economic development of Kien Giang province and the Mekong Delta.
The announcement of the Port planning will help Kien Giang be more proactive in investing and exploiting aviation infrastructure, ensuring sustainable development, synchronous with other key projects of the province.
Vice Chairman of Giang Thanh Khoa Provincial People's Committee believes that with the determination of the government and the support of investors, the airport will soon become an important gateway to the region and the world.
Accordingly, Kien Giang province will closely coordinate with ministries, central branches and investors to implement planning on schedule, with quality and efficiency. The province will continue to create favorable conditions for projects related to airports and auxiliary infrastructure to be implemented smoothly.
The conference announced Decision 427/QD-BXD dated April 15, 2025 of the Minister of Construction on approving the Phu Quoc International Airport Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Phu Quoc International Airport is used as a joint civil and military airport; with the demand for land use for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 of Phu Quoc International Airport of about 1,050.1 hectares.

The planning target for the period 2021-2030, Phu Quoc International Airport will achieve airport status 4E (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO), with a capacity of about 10 million passengers/year and 25,000 tons of cargo/year; the type of aircraft exploited is Boeing B747, B787, Airbus A350 and equivalent.
Vision to 2050, the Port will be granted airport status 4E (according to ICAO's standard code), with a capacity of about 18 million passengers/year and 50,000 tons of cargo/year.
For the landing system, the period of 2021-2030 the planning of the existing takeoff to both sides reached 3,500 m x 45 m; The planning of the landing road No. 2 is 3,300 m x 45 m, about 360 m from the heart of the road to take away the northern landing road, the size of the material margins as prescribed. Vision to 2050: Maintain the configuration of the landing line has been planned in the previous period.
In the period of 2021-203, the apron planning in front of T2 passenger terminal and expanding the existing apron to meet about 30 aircraft parking locations, capable of expanding at the reserve area to develop the apron; Planning of aircraft apron of Vip/Aviation House area to ensure synchronous exploitation.
Vision to 2050: expand the parking lot to accommodate about 45 aircraft parking locations; reserve to expand when needed.
Phu Quoc City was chosen as the venue for the APEC Airport Week 2027, the early completion of the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport not only contributes to completing infrastructure, serving well the organization of APEC 2027 but also creates motivation to make Phu Quoc a leading tourism - economic center in the region and the world.
