Accordingly, Phu Quoc Special Zone was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of 8 communes and wards: Duong Dong ward, An Thoi ward, Duong To commune, Ham Ninh commune, Cua Duong commune, Bai Thom commune, Ganh Dau commune, Cua Can commune. At the same time, the operation of these 8 communes and wards will end.
After the arrangement, Phu Quoc special zone has an area of 575.29 km2, a population of 157,629 people. The place where the working office of the DVHC is at the headquarters of the existing Phu Quoc People's Committee. This is the DVHC with the largest area of Kien Giang province after arranging.
